You can reset your Windows PIN either from the lock screen if you are unable to log in, or from the Settings menu if you are already logged in. You will need your Microsoft account password to complete these steps. From the Windows Lock Screen (If you can't log in)
If you've forgotten your PIN and cannot sign in to your laptop, follow these steps.
- On the Windows sign-in screen, look for the sign-in options below the PIN entry box.
- Click on "I forgot my PIN".
- You will be prompted to enter your Microsoft account password.
- You may be asked to verify your identity again using a second factor, like a code sent to your phone or an approval in the Microsoft Authenticator app.
- Once verified, you will see a window allowing you to set up a new PIN. Enter your new PIN and confirm it.
- Click OK. You can now use your new PIN to log in to your computer.
From Windows Settings (If you are already logged in)
If you know your current PIN but want to change it, or if you are already logged in using your password.
- Click the Start Menu and go to Settings (the gear icon).
- Select Accounts.
- From the left-hand menu, select Sign-in options.
- Click on Windows Hello PIN.
- Click the Change button and follow the prompts to enter your old PIN and create a new one. If you forgot the PIN but are signed in, you may see an "I forgot my PIN" link here as well.
